RiverWalkArt
is a new program created for the Kathryn W. Davis RiverWalk Center in Sleepy
Hollow, NY, designed to encourage people to unleash their imaginations and
creativity through exploration, discovery, and observation, all while learning
about the natural world around them. It is a exciting collaboration between the
Hudson River Valley Environmental Education Institute (HRVEEI) and Strawtown Studio, a Rockland-based initiative known for engaging art and science programming.
Laurie Seeman |
Strawtown Studio’s Director and Lead
Educator, Laurie Seeman, is an Earth Artist and Waterway Advocate. She says, “The
Center’s location features one of the Hudson River’s most majestic distant
views, and the water is rich with life. This wide area of the estuary is a
mixing zone for salt and fresh water. Amazing natural treasures are found on
the beach where the seine netting occurs and the art and science begins. On
land there is a variety of grand old shade trees, and the RiverWalk Center, in
the elegant 1920’s bathhouse, draws local history into the programming."
Cliff
Schneider, Executive Director of HRVEEI, adds, “RiverWalkArt will build community and develop people's sense of
where they come from, of their natural heritage.”
Hudson
River Valley Environmental Education Institute (HRVEEI) is the new umbrella
name for programs at Beczak Environmental Education Center and Kathryn W. Davis
RiverWalk Center. Beczak Environmental Education Center is a well-loved river
exploration center in Yonkers that has been offering programs for adults and
children at their Center, in the community and in schools for over twenty
years. The Kathryn W. Davis RiverWalk Center is a newly restored facility at
Kingsland Point Park, on the Hudson River in Sleepy Hollow, NY. Both
environmental education centers are located on Scenic Hudson parks.
HUDSON RIVER VALLEY ENVIRONMENTAL
EDUCATION INSTITUTE (HRVEEI)
Hudson
River Valley Environmental Education Institute, with classrooms and beach
access in Yonkers and Sleepy Hollow, is the lower Hudson’s hub for river
education. It offers many programs at
